This month we’re spotlighting the Wells Branch neighborhood of Austin, Texas. This week, we’ll be sharing some of the community locations and dining options available in this popular north suburb.
Wells Branch Community Library is a popular community gathering place in addition to being a great place to check out books for everyone in your family, and the Wells Branch Neighborhood Association advocates for the area and sponsors events like Easter Egg Hunts, 4th of July celebrations, and Gardening Workshops.
As far as restaurants, Wells Branch has a surprising number of locally owned dining places, in addition to a host of chains. Think you can’t get exotic foreign cuisine in the suburbs? Well, belly up to Inka Chicken, which is Peruvian fast food. They are famous for their flavorful, juicy roast chicken and even have a drive-through so you can get a delicious, gourmet meal for your family without leaving your car.
If Barbecue is more your speed, Branch Bar-B-Q has you covered. This local favorite has been serving up Texas staples like tender smoked brisket and sausage, sides like potato salad and cole slaw, and even their own homemade ice cream for nearly twenty years. Prices are affordable as well, especially for lunch with a two meat, two sides plate going for only $6.95.
If it’s early yet and you need a wake-up cup, Kenny’s Coffee Company has delicious coffee and breakfasts with everything from generously sized breakfast tacos to pancakes. Get there early, though, Kenny’s closes at 1pm.
If you like to shop, the Domain is just a quick shot down Mopac. This luxury shopping center offers open-air shopping in an environment that feels more like a small town downtown than a mall. The Domain is anchored by high end retailer Neiman Marcus, which offers the latest designer fashions at champagne prices. This beautifully curated store is worth a stroll through just to gawk at all the amazing clothes you only read about in fashion magazines.
If you have more of a beer pocketbook, The Domain is also home to the only Austin outlet of H&M. This Swedish retailer is famous for its trendy, well-priced clothing that will have you on the cutting edge of fashion. Or “fast-fashion” as H&M likes to say.
Speaking of fast-fashion, Zara, a Spanish-based store located next to Macy’s, brags that it can bring new designs to market in two weeks. The clothing industry averages six months for this feat, so you know Zara will get a trend out on shelves before it has time to get stale.
