Thousands of people move to Austin or relocate within Austin every year because of job changes.  In a city growing by 110 people per day, the complaint we hear most often centers around traffic.  The majority of the renters we see are hoping to find an apartment that fits their lifestyle and allows for a reasonable commute to their place of work.  With that in mind, we wanted to give some insight into Austin’s largest employers and the rental options that surround them.  This is the twelfth in a series of articles titled ‘Minimum Commute, Maximum Lifestyle’ and will focus on the University of Texas at Austin (UT).
The University of Texas at Austin was founded in 1883 and has more than 50,000 students, making it the fifth-largest college by enrollment in the country.  The Chevron Corporation recently announced that they were making a $800,000 gift to the University of Texas to support programs in the McCombs School of Business, Cockrell School of Engineering and Jackson School of Geosciences.
UT employs more than 24,000 faculty and staff in a variety of positions on its Austin campus.  Positions include Program Coordinator-Event Program Managers, (monthly salary starts at $3,666), Program Coordinator-IACUC Program Coordinators (monthly salary starts at $3,500), Building Attendant II-Night Shift Cleaning Workers (monthly salary starts at $1,907), Research Engineering/Scientist Assistants (monthly salary starts at $1,932), Marketing Coordinators (monthly salary starts at $3,750) and many more.
There are wealth of restaurants available in the UT area for students and employees to choose from for lunch.  Fricano’s Deli is just west of UT in West Campus and serves delicious, fresh sandwiches in large portions.  Dirty Martin’s has been serving up their “Kum-Bak Hamburgers”, homemade chips and fries to hungry Longhorns since 1926.
For after work drinks with coworkers, The Hole in the Wall recently celebrated its 40th anniversary and continues to delight Austinites with its diverse musical acts, large beer selection, and happy hour specials from 3-8pm Monday through Friday.  The addition of the East Side King location in the back means you can even get a delicious bowl of Ramen or Brussel Sprouts Salad while you enjoy the music.
